I rented the lens for the weekend and have lots of pictures to post, just very little time. I'll get on it, I promise.

Highlight of the week

For those of you who haven't seen it yet...
(This was a video of the Wayne Rooney's goal last week against Manchester City, but the video keeps getting taken down from youtube. Go search for "Rooney goal" and it will come up. It's a crazy bicycle kick, or "overhead kick" as they call it in the clip. Crazy!)

Radiolab

Since I spend much of my time at school doing repetitive motion tasks (also known as "research"), I listen to my iPod a lot. I recently discovered the Radiolab podcast, a public radio podcast from WNYC. The show focuses on stories about science, in it's broadest sense. Life sciences, physical sciences, etc. I'm not explaining it well, so click on the link to the right and go download the latest episode "Lost & Found", and listen to the last story about Alan and Emilie; some of the best radio I have ever heard.

Table Mountain

Here are some pictures from the hike my dad and I took out to Phantom Falls on Table Mountain back home in December. More photos, minus the goofballs after the jump.

Some favorites

I'm slowly going through all my pictures. I should have finished the Table Mountain set, but instead here are some favorites from our trip to the beach. They are a mix of digital and film and these are lower quality jpegs, so they might be a little grainy. (The bird is a marbled godwit, for the curious)

My flash broke after less than 100 shots, which was super disappointing as I'd rented some nice lenses for portraits while we were out in California. It's going to be replaced, which is nice, just the timing was bad. I am slowly sorting through the 1000+ pictures I took while in California, which is more than a little excessive. Obviously I need to spend more time on visualization, but when taking pictures of kids (or parents), it does pay to have lots of shots to chose from! I should have some time this weekend to get some images processed, and to show why I don't just post them straight out of the camera, I have an example. This is Phantom Falls, at Table Mountain, California. This is just 10 minutes or so from my parents house (Table Mountain, the falls was an hour or so walk.) This first image is straight out of the camera.

This second one is after processing. It's the same thing I used to do in the darkroom, only now it's done in the computer. I have a lot more from this hike with my Dad, I'll see if I can't get a post together tomorrow afternoon.
